✦ Meditation — The Taller Man
There is nothing so revolutionary as kneeling.
The world believes height comes from climbing — from mounting platforms, acquiring titles, accumulating followers. Yet Christ proposes a mathematics in which subtraction increases and humility elevates.
To love one’s enemy is not sentimentality; it is sovereignty. It is the declaration that hatred shall not dictate the temperature of the soul. When Our Lord commands us to bless those who curse us, He does not ask us to approve injustice; He asks us to refuse to be governed by it.
The Christian does not kneel because he is small. He kneels because he knows the size of God.
Modern men often imagine humility to be a kind of groveling self-contempt. But true humility is clarity. It is seeing both our frailty and His fidelity at once. It is standing on rock instead of sand. The proud man balances on himself and trembles; the humble man leans on eternity and stands firm.
When we pray for those who wound us, something curious occurs. The wound ceases to define the day. The insult shrinks; the mercy expands. The enemy becomes — if not yet a friend — at least a fellow beggar in need of grace.
The man who kneels at dawn will stand differently at noon.
For he has already stood before the throne of the King.

Lord Jesus Christ,
teach us the holy defiance of mercy.
Grant us courage to love beyond convenience,
to forgive beyond instinct,
and to kneel before You before we stand before men.
Raise our small hearts into the largeness of Yours.
